Who we are

Kibera Slums Community Development Program (KISCODEP) is a non profit making organization registered by the NGO Co-ordination Board in December 2007, and whose activities are tailored towards poverty alleviation, employment creation and wealth creation through establishing sector specific programs geared towards community development.

This is in harmony with the Kenya’s development strategy of ensuring sustainable economic growth and enhancing social development through investing in the human capital of the poor

This means, if fully implemented, KISCODEP will be contributing to Kenya’s development agenda as embodied in various blueprints as well as helping the country to realize the critical targets and benchmarks of the Millennium Development Goals.

How we started

The organization was started in June 2006 as a Community Based Organization by the like-minded residents of Kibera in order to alleviate the burden emanating from poverty experienced in the slums. Members later developed another broad vision: “To Bridge the gap between the poor and the rich in the community”. This, they said was not confined to Kibera alone; it is cross-cutting most regions in Kenya, since in Kenya less than 10% of the population controls over 80% of the countries GDP.

There was a need to increase the scope due to the foregoing. Thus the organization was registered as an NGO by the government in December 2007. Our program in future will extend to various parts of the country, targeting the poor and the vulnerable.

Due to the limitation of necessary resources, KISCODEP has targeted the larger Kibera Slums since it a place inhabited by some of the poorest people in the world.
